Château Beau-Site, located on stony soils close to Château Calon Ségur, lies on one of Médoc’s highest points and has a fantastic view over the Gironde River. Château Beau-Site is located outside the village of St. Corbian, which is at the northern extremity of the St. Estèphe appellation. There are nearly 86 acres (35 hectares) of vines with an average age of 35 years, and the plantings are comprised of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot. The soil type is a mixture of gravel, clay and sand, and the climate is affected by the nearby Gironde, providing a more temperate growing season.

Winemaking

At the time of optimal ripeness, the grapes for the Saint-Éstephe Cru Bourgeois are harvested exclusively by hand without the help of coarse and hardly selective grape harvesters. After the hand harvest, the grapes reach the winery as quickly as possible. Here they are selected and carefully broken up. Fermentation then takes place in small wood at controlled temperatures. After fermentation, the elegant Saint-Éstephe Cru Bourgeois is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.

Tasting notes

The barrel-aged Saint-Éstephe Cru Bourgeois from the wine-growing region of Bordeaux reveals itself in the glass in a bright purple-red. At the edges, this French red also shows a transition to garnet red. If you give it some air in the wine glass by swirling it, you can perceive a first-class balance in this red wine, because it does not stand out on the glass walls in a watery, syrupy or liqueur-like way. The first nose of the Saint-Éstephe Cru Bourgeois reveals notes of blackberries, blackcurrants and raspberries. The fruity aspects of the bouquet are joined by notes of barrel ageing and even more fruity-balsamic nuances. The Château Beau-Site Saint-Éstephe Cru Bourgeois is pleasantly dry. This red wine is never coarse or meagre, but round and smooth. On the tongue, this well-balanced red wine is characterised by an incredibly velvety texture. On the finish, this mature red wine from the Bordeaux wine-growing region impresses with its considerable length. Again, there are hints of blackberry and raspberry. In the finish, mineral notes from the gravel-dominated soils join in.Recommended serving temperature: 15° — 18°C
