Haut-Bages Monpelou is Château Batailley’s little brother and has special cellar facilities in Batailley. The estate is situated in the heart of the appellation Pauillac. Property of the Castéja family in the 16th century, as was Chateau Duhart Milon, Haut-Bages Monpelou was originally linked to Chateau Duhart Milon. In 1950 Haut-Bages Monpelou was separated from the latter and has been driven as an individual estate since. Behind Haut-Bages Monpelou stands the Batailley team and knowhow.

Tasting notes

Haut-Bages Monpelou 2016 by Paris Bistro : “Made from a blend of Cabernet-Sauvignon (70%), Merlot (27%) and Cabernet-Franc, this 2016, whose tightly planted vines (8,000 vines per hectare) “fetch” the terroir finesse of the Garonne gravel, is dressed in a masterful dark ruby colour with thin purple hues. On the nose, it develops black fruits, blackcurrant buds, violets and a few hints of truffle. Silky, the attack in the mouth is supported by tight but supple tannins. The mid-palate graces the palate with delicate roundness. The finish, without any false notes, ends the journey on tender aftertaste of vanilla wood, a discreet reminder of a very controlled maturation in new and one year old barrels. A festive bottle that shows great maturity”.
