Classified Premier Grand Cru AOC Saint-Émilion since 1955, Château TrotteVieille is acknowledged as one of the greatest wines in Saint-Émilion. Having fallen in love with it, Marcel Borie purchased the property in 1947. The estate is run today by the Castéja family. Château TrotteVieille is located on a superb slope to the east of the village of Saint-Émilion. The vineyard covers a terroir of 12 hectares made up of 49% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. It is one of the rare estates to still have very old Cabernet Franc vines dating back to before the outbreak of phylloxera.

Winemaking

Thin clay coating on limestone soil. A meticulous fermentation takes place in a plot sized tank room during about 4 weeks. Wine is aged in 100% French oak new barrels during 18 to 24 months.

Tasting notes

Chateau TrotteVieille from the masculine vintage of 2011 is powerful and dense with notes of cassis and licorice, elegant oak and juicy blueberry, toast, coffee, and cigar. Good acidity. Complex, this wine is an investment for many years to come. Give it some time in the carafe. On the palate full bodied, textured and firm, with present tannins, an impressive structure and a very long finish.

Pairing recommendation

Ideal with red meats and strong cheeses.
