Murua sits on a small hill just outside the town of Elciego, an area historically dedicated to crafting top quality estate wines. The vineyards are divided into 8 plots, mainly planted with red grape varietals (Tempranillo, Grenache, Graciano and Mazuelo). In order to achieve the best possible expression of the different soils in the estate, special attention is paid to factors such as soil composition and structure, and the orientation and sun exposure of the grape clusters.
The Murua estate is made up of more than 80 hectares of its own vineyard. This wine comes from a total of 3 hectares of low yield goblet vineyards between 40 and 80 years old of native varieties such as Viura, Malvasía and Garnacha Blanca, authentic jewels located at the headwaters of different vineyards, cultivated as they are used to do in Elciego and the rest of La Rioja Alavesa.
Following a traditional process, the harvesting of the grapes is done manually and the selection in the winery using an artificial vision machine with grain-by-grain optical selection. The wine fermented in new French and American oak barrels for 15 days. Once the fermentation was finished, the wine was aged in the same barrels, and on its lees, for 9 and a half months before being transferred to the Murua bottle cellars.
Clean, with a lot of shine and golden reflections. Lemon yellow colour. The first aromatic sensations are a true floral explosion, intense and very persistent. Fresh citrus aromas come together with the flowers of Mount Alavés: rosemary, thyme, acacia, but also subtly mixed with pastries and butter from the barrel. It continues to evolve and gain complexity. The attack in the mouth is intense and fresh. The passage through the mouth reflects personality, good balance, intensity and volume. We can detect a bit of green pear, a nice herbaceous touch, mint, chamomile and more aromas that intertwine with the elegant fragrances of oak. Murua Blanco Fermented in Barrel is a wine in which we can highlight the acidity of the great vintages, just as they are distinguished in the white wines of Burgundy.
