Casa Vinicola Antonutti is a winery in Friuli Venezia Giulia. The four generations of the Antonutti family have been growing grapes in the heart of the Grave del Friuli for just over a hundred years. The winery now owns about fifty hectares of vineyards. The rivers Meduna, Cellina and Taglimento have brought large amounts of dolomite limestone into the area, and the area itself is protected from northerly winds, but benefits from its proximity to the sea. Antonutti grape grows in a place called Barbeano, where the soil is pebbled. The difference between day and night temperatures is large, so the grapes can be harvested later when they are already full of aromas.

Winemaking

Plain with pebbly soils with fractions of red clay of morainic origin. Guyot training system with a density of 4,500 plants per hectare. After a rigorous manual thinning, the final grape production is about 1 kg per vine. To obtain a better aeration of the bunches and a better exposure to the sun, the practice of defoliation is implemented. The soft pressing of the grapes, harvested when they reach full phenolic ripeness, is followed by a maceration of about 10 days with frequent pumping over. After racking, the alcoholic and malolactic fermentation are completed in steel containers. The wine obtained then matures in French oak barriques for about 12 months. It is refined in the bottle for 12 months before being released on the market.

Tasting notes

From the ruby red colour emerge notes of pomegranate, raspberry, currant, licorice and delicate spices. On the palate it is enveloping, in excellent balance between freshness and flavor, it fully expresses the territory. The tannins are present but discreet and the aroma of berries persists in closing.
