Arneis is a white Italian wine grape variety originating from Piedmont. It is most commonly found in the hills of the Roero, northwest of Alba, where it is part of the white Denominazione di origine controllata (DOC) wines of Roero. Arneis (literally: little rascal, in Piemontese dialect) is so called because it is regarded as a somewhat difficult variety to grow. It is a crisp and floral varietal, and has been grown for centuries in the region.

About wine

The white wines made from the Arneis grape tend to be dry and full body with notes of pears and apricots.

Tasting notes

Straw yellow in colour with a greenish tinge. Intense, fragrant bouquet with the scent of apple and pear. Full-flavoured and elegant, pleasantly bitterish. Good ageing potential for a white wine. Best served at a temperature of 10-12°C.

Food pairing

It pairs with hors d’oeuvres, fresh water fish dishes, sea food and white meats; an excellent aperitif.
