The Tenuta Viglione winery has its origins in the ancient farming and wine-growing traditions of the Zullo family, which, driven by a desire to enhance the enormous wine-growing potential of the area between the municipalities of Gioia del Colle and Santeramo in Colle, has been producing quality wines in these areas for decades. Puglia is the heel of the Boot. It is a land projected into the Mediterranean, a bridge to the East. Every year it is among the top regions in Italy for the production of wine grapes. The Murge is a sub-region defined by a karst plateau in the centre of Puglia. The hilly terrain, with an altitude between 300 and 500 metres, is clayey-calcareous and rich in minerals. The discovery of numerous marine fossils testifies to its ancient origins. The microclimate is mild, with temperature fluctuations even around 20 \u00b0C in the period before the grape harvest. These characteristics make it an ideal habitat for vines.<\/h5>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Winemaking<\/h3>\n

Pebbly soil on a calcareous base. Exposure to the South West, altitude 450 m. Year of planting: 1981. Training system with spurred cordon. 4,000 plants per hectare, yield of 6,000 kg per hectare. Harvest in the first ten days of September, mechanical harvesting. Alcoholic fermentation in steel. Aging 30% in large barrels for 12 months.<\/p>\n

Tasting notes<\/h3>\n

Organic wine with an intense ruby red colour. Clean nose, good intensity, with soft tannins. Aroma of red fruits and humus, with notes of vincotto figs and Apulian bitter almonds. Aromas of cherry, plum and tobacco leaf. Rich and voluptuous with fresh acidity and a gently earthy finish.<\/p>\n

Recommended serving temperature: 18\u00b0 \u2014 20\u00b0C<\/em><\/p>\n
