The history of Château Lalande is closely linked to that of Château Lagrange (3rd Grand Cru Classé), as the estate was originally part of that property until it was sold to its current owner, Gabriel Meffre, in 1964. This is a unique estate with a 15.5‑hectare vineyard that combines the richness and fertility of Médoc soils with the expertise of the Meffre family, who also own Châteaux du Glana and Bellegrave. Striking a perfect balance between modern techniques and respect for tradition, Château Lalande is also one of the best value wines of the Saint‑Julien appellation.

Winemaking

Harvesting is both mechanical and manual. Vineyard management is parcel‑based. Vinification is temperature‑controlled, and ageing lasts 12 months in 35% new oak barrels.

TASTING NOTES

Aromas of ripe blackberry, plum skin, roasted nuts, spice box and dark chocolate. Some damp forest floor as well. Medium‑ to full‑bodied with juicy black fruits, firm tannins and a polished texture. Persistent finish. Magnificent today, but better with one or two years of ageing.

Food pairings

Ideal with cumin‑spiced lamb, chestnut‑stuffed duck, venison stew with mushrooms, or Bordeaux‑style snails.
