Château Moncontour is one of the oldest wine estates in the Loire Valley, dating back to the time of Saint Martin. Celebrated by Balzac as “my predilection,” the estate has been lovingly preserved by the Feray family since 1994. Today, its 130 hectares of vineyards stretch across the Vouvray, Crémant de Loire and Touraine appellations, offering a breathtaking view over the Loire Valley.

The year 2023 was marked by a hot and dry climate, creating challenges during harvest. While a few storms may have disrupted flowering, they had no impact on grape quality. As a result, 2023 emerges as a charming vintage with appealing character. The wines show relatively low acidity, accompanied by vibrant floral and fruity aromas.

Winemaking

Hand harvest (early enough to avoid too much potential alcohol). Slow pressing at low pressure. Must selection during pressing. Fermentation in oak barrels with indigenous yeast. Fermentation lasts around 6 weeks. Aged 8 months in 500 L oak barrels. <1 g/L residual sugar. Maturing 8 months on the lees, with fining and regular racking to build body.

Tasting notes

Pale yellow with green tints. Fresh nose with vanilla and white‑flower aromas. Crisp, clean and fresh; good body, long finish and beautiful aftertaste.

Good to drink now and for the next 6 years.

Food pairing

Seafood. Grilled fish / BBQ. Asian or Oriental dishes.

Serve at 8 °C.
