Hacienda Solano is a small family winery located in La Aguilera, a historic town in the province of Burgos, home to some of the best vineyards of DO Ribera del Duero. Here, at an altitude of around 1000 metres and in extreme climatic conditions, the winery cultivates its old vineyards, some of which are centuries old, in small plots that do not allow mechanisation. The technical part of the winemaking is managed by Sophie Khün, an Alsatian oenologist with a long professional career in France and Australia, and Toni Sarrión (from Bodegas Mustiguillo in Utiel), who joined the project in 2016 to propose a more environmentally friendly concept, with minimal intervention both in the field and in the winery. Even without official certification, the winery follows the principles of organic farming and its aim is to produce wines that speak of terroirs, classified according to the age of the vineyards and the soil characteristics of each estate. This is definitely a winery that naturally introduces us to Ribera del Duero, offering us lighter, more delicate, fresh, elegant and long-lasting wines.
Winemaking
Hacienda Solano Finca Peña Lobera is a wine made from fruit from only one vineyard, located in Peña Lobera. It is a century-old vineyard located between pine forests, at altitude, on sandy and limestone soil.
Berry picking by hand, with selection of grapes in the vineyard. Fermentation in a small stainless steel tank, where a mild pyjage takes place. Aged for 18 months in used French oak barrels.
Tasting notes
This is a deep red wine, complex and fascinating. Intoxicating and frank aromas that only the great wines of Ribera del Duero have. On the palate it has a pleasant start, with an outstanding flavour and a fresh long lasting aftertaste.
Food pairing
Goes well with game, various stews, roast beef, steaks, aged cheeses, jamon iberico.
