A well-managed estate owned by the charming and enthusiastic young couple, Sarah and Bruno Marchand. In order to create an ecological and natural balance in this romantic hilly corner of Saint-Emilion, Sarah and Bruno have introduced flowers around the vines (and even between the rows) as well as beehives. These changes significantly reduce the use of pesticides. To improve the quality of the wine, they produce the 2nd wine (sold in bulk) and a “saignée” (20% of their production). Only the best of the best will be used to produce the main wine, Château Haut-Bonneau!
Winemaking
Clay and limestone soil. Area of the vineyard is 12 ha, the age of the vineyard is 45 years. Density of 6600 vines/ha with an average yield of 40 hl/ha. Vinification in small thermo-regulated concrete vats. The temperature in the cellar is lowered in winter to eliminate tartaric deposits before bottling. Aged in vats and oak barrels. Bottling at the Château.
Tasting notes
Intense and deep red colour. Very ripe black and red fruits with hints of cigar box and vanilla. A dense structure with soft tannins that harmoniously complement fruity notes. A classic Montagne Saint-Émilion with a modern twist.
