The story of Masseria Jorche began in the early 1900s, when Giovanni Gianfreda established the family’s first “palamientu” (an old, traditional winemaking room — the earliest form of an organized cellar in Apulia) laying the foundation for a winemaking tradition that endured even through the devastation of phylloxera. In the late 1950s, his grandson Cosimo built the first fully mechanized cellar, marking a turning point in the estate’s evolution. Today, the fifth generation — sisters Dalila and Emanuela — lead Jorche with passion, expanding the winery, developing the Masseria hospitality project, and creating an innovative Primitivo‑based cosmetic line. Jorche’s vineyards include 12 hectares of historic seaside plots and 6 hectares of young vines, cultivating Primitivo, Negramaro, Fiano Minutolo and Bianco d’Alessano. Harvesting remains a manual ritual, honoring ancestral traditions. Surrounded by olive trees and Mediterranean scents, the Masseria offers guests an authentic Apulian experience where history, nature and winemaking come together in perfect harmony.
About the wine
“La Dote di Manuvé” is a truly special project for us — a wine aged for 10 years in a capasone. It is a dedication to grandmother Emanuela…
“La Dote di Manuvè” is a wine aged for 10 years in one of the capasoni that our grandmother Emanuela brought as part of her dowry when she married our grandfather Cosimo. This wine is dedicated to her — Manuvè — the name he always used for her. Anyone who opens this bottle will feel as though they are releasing all the poetry and love of the story from which it was born.”
“La Dote di Manuvé” is a wine made from Primitivo grapes, aged for ten years in a capasone. Over time, it has lost some of its color and developed rare tertiary aromas. It is an oxidative‑style wine, with gentle sweetness and unexpected acidity.
It is a wine that stands outside conventional standards of “pleasantness”.
Anyone who opens a bottle of “La Dote di Manuvé” will feel as if they are opening the capasone itself: breaking the seal is like releasing all the poetry and love of this wine and the story from which it was born.
Around 500 bottles are produced each year — and this number is not random: a capasone holds about 250 liters, and each one is unique, handmade by the ceramic masters of Grottaglie.
