Bodegas Barreda is a modern company whose goal is to produce high-quality wines, completing a process that begins in the soil and ends with a bottle ready for sale. At Torre de Barreda, wine is understood as a universal product that embodies the cultural identity of the region and as a spiritual complement to food in the art of gastronomy. The world of wine is a fascinating one, but it requires a lot of patience and care: time is a decisive factor, and today’s hard work and planning will only bear fruit many years from now. At Bodegas Barreda, they strive daily to improve their processes and wines, always keeping in mind their ultimate goal: to express the character of their terroir.
About the grape variety
Tempranillo is the most well-known grape variety in Spain. It is grown in 28 of the 54 Designations of Origin (D.O.) and in 27 of the 49 regions producing Vino de la Tierra. It is also cultivated in Portugal, France, Argentina and the USA. With more than 15 local names, the variety can yield very different wines depending on the land and climate.
About the wine
The winery’s goal with Torre de Barreda Tempranillo is to highlight the varietal fruit developed in their terroir in Toledo. It is not strictly a young wine, as it has been aged for five months in oak barrels – 25% French and 75% American. The result is a youthful and fresh wine characterised by notes of ripe black and red fruits, liquorice and anise, along with subtle balsamic and spicy hints from the cask.
The grapes used in its production come from three vineyards: La Dehesilla, Monte Alto and Pancierto. The minimum distance between the estates is 10 km and the maximum is 20 km, giving the winery great versatility to blend wines from both old and young vines across three different terroirs in search of perfect balance. The average age of the vines used is around 30 years.
