Historically, Fronsac was considered more prestigious than its neighbours Pomerol and Saint‑Émilion, and wines from this area were favoured at the court of King Louis XIV. The wine is produced by the Romeau family (Famille Romeau), a small family‑run estate dedicated to traditional winemaking. They aim to preserve the “rustic” and honest character of Fronsac — wines with deep colour, pronounced tannins and strong ageing potential.
Mylène Romeau and other local winemakers note that 2020 was part of the “trilogy of great vintages” (2018, 2019, 2020). The summer was hot, allowing Merlot to reach perfect ripeness. The wine from this year is fruitier and “sunnier” than usual, with soft, velvety tannins. It is a classic “smart” purchase: you get a wine made with the same techniques and grown on similar soils as the famous Right Bank estates, but without the huge brand premium.
Tasting notes
A wine of deep colour, pronounced tannins and excellent ageing potential.
Food pairings
Pairs beautifully with meat dishes for dinner.
