Château Batailley, Grand Cru Classé in 1855, is one of the jewels of the Castéja family and Borie-Manoux. It owes its name to the last battle in the Médoc during the Hundred Years’ War (1337–1453), which took place on the very site of the estate’s vineyards. The 100‑hectare property, including 60 hectares of vines, has belonged to the family since 1924. Its deep gravel soils give rise to a highly distinguished wine, true to the Pauillac appellation.

Winemaking

Fermentation and maceration for around 25 days in small temperature‑controlled stainless‑steel vats. Aged for 18 months in barrels (55% new, 45% one‑year‑old).

Tasting notes

Beautiful garnet colour, perfectly bright. Highly aromatic, marked by intense fruit notes with hints of spices and cedar. This is a very typical Batailley, showing a fine balance between suppleness and tannic structure. The mid‑palate is dense and continuous, and the finish is structured and very persistent.

Pairs perfectly with leg of lamb, marinated venison, doe stew, or Médoc‑style grilled rib‑eye.
