The agricultural company was founded in 1993, by Ivan Giuliani, who inherited the farm previously purchased in the 1930s from his grandfather. The spark for this profession was ignited after 1995. At the end of his military service in Friuli, in the midst of vineyards and winemakers who passed on to him their attachment to their land and the best winemaking techniques, Ivan decided that this would be the metier of his life. It is located in Fosdinovo, in the province of Massa, in the northernmost tongue of Tuscany. The company covers about 20 hectares located between Luni, Candia, Cinque Terre and Lunigiana. The harvest is carried out manually and late, so that the grapes achieve a perfect balance between sugars, acidity, polyphenols and aromas. It is wonderful to know that the vines, as many as 8500 per hectare, are planted in this way to make them compete with each other so that the search for food takes place ever deeper. The plant will be stronger and less in need of care.

Winemaking

Terraced vineyards with 11,000 vines per ha located in the municipality of Carrara. The total extension is about 4 hectares. The soils, which are grassed over, are sandy-loam with carbonate from sandstone decomposition of schists and micascists. Planting 100% manual management with Guyot-trained vines. Treatments with knapsack sprayers and motorised mistblowers. Mowing with brush cutters only. Total absence of chemicals. Manual harvesting, on average late, with collection in boxes and aided in rare cases by funiculars. The harvested grapes are transported to the cellar in Fosdinovo (MS), renouncing the DOC, with cold storage. Fermentation starts with whole bunches and whole grapes for about 3 weeks in cement vats. Maturation of 2 years in cement for the Vermentino Nero and old tonneaux for the Massaretta. Bottling without stabilisation or filtration.

Tasting notes

Bright, deep purple red. The nose is reminiscent of fresh violets, sour cherries and ripe, jellied berries, with elegant spice on the finish. Tantalizing, pleasant and fruity on the palate, it closes juicy and slightly tannic with aromas of dark fruits and spices.Recommended serving temperature: 16° — 18°C

Food pairing

An intense and very pleasant red, the result of heroic viticulture and worked between cement and tonneaux. It goes perfectly with first and second courses of red and white meat.
