Jean and Stan Gagnaire, two passionate brothers, are the owners of Château La Chapelle Despagnet, located one kilometre from the heart of Saint-Emilion. It is a small estate and has 7 hectares of vines. The terroir of the vines is unique and is an exquisite marriage between soil, climate and grape varieties. The family is very dedicated and attaches great importance to the traditions of winemaking and respect for the environment. Their main objective is to produce quality wines with great elegance.

Winemaking

Sand, gravel and iron residues soil. 20-year-old vines with a density of 8000 vines/ha. Yield of 45 hl/ha. Manual harvesting. Traditional vinification in stainless steel vats. Regular pumping-over and release. Maceration for 25 days. Aged in oak barrels for 12 months. (33% of new barrels).

Tasting notes

Bright deep ruby, with appealing aromas of plum, blackberry and vanilla. Charming body, very drinkable young, but well balanced between acidity and tannins, with lots of pretty fruit.Recommended serving temperature: 17°C — 18°C

Pairing recommendation

Serve with roasted rabbit, grilled fillet of duck breast or pan-fried boletus mushrooms. This wine will be the perfect partnet for a good selection of cheeses such as Brie, Comté or cheese made with sheep milk.
