1973. Acquired in the same year as Château Pignon (Lalande‑de‑Pomerol) by Émile Castéja, the estate is now managed by his son Philippe Castéja. The vineyard of Château du Domaine de l’Église lies in the shadow of the Pomerol church tower and covers 7 hectares. Planted on gravel and clay soils, with 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, it produces grapes of excellent quality.

Winemaking

Gravel soils, clay and iron-rich subsoil. Fermentation and maceration last nearly 4 weeks. Aged for 18 months in barrels (around 60% new).

Tasting notes

A robe with violet reflections. Fresh, fruity and floral on the nose. On the palate, the wine is elegant, round, pleasantly full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a slight herbal touch. One of the finest vintages of Château du Domaine de l’Église.

Food pairings

Pan‑seared warm foie gras
Duck à l’orange
Turkey with chestnuts
Hare à la Lucullus
