Haut‑Bages Monpelou is the “little brother” of Château Batailley and has its own dedicated cellar facilities within Batailley. The estate is located in the heart of the Pauillac appellation. Owned by the Castéja family since the 16th century, like Château Duhart‑Milon, Haut‑Bages Monpelou was originally attached to Duhart‑Milon. In 1950, it was separated from the latter and has since been managed as an independent estate. 1950. Behind Haut‑Bages Monpelou stands the expertise and technical team of Batailley.
Winemaking
Fermentation and maceration for 14–18 days in stainless‑steel tanks. Ageing for 18 months in oak barrels (around 30% new oak).
Tasting notes
Deep ruby colour. The first nose reveals toasted and lightly vanilla notes. After aeration, very concentrated red‑fruit aromas emerge. The palate is dense, elegant, and well‑balanced, with flavours of very ripe red fruits. Toasted notes accompany the wine into a long, lingering finish. — Benoit Bouchonneau, Cellar Master of the Château.
Food pairings
Best enjoyed with red meats and characterful cheeses.
