In the heart of the Roero region, in Vezza d’Alba, the Demarie Giovanni family have been managing their estate for more than three generations with hard work and a real passion for viticulture. The winery has over 20 hectares of vineyards in the districts of Vezza, Castagnito, Castellinaldo and Guarene. The company’s choice to produce wine exclusively from grapes grown on its own vineyards guarantees the authenticity of the product. Demarie is also focused on the sustainability of its wines: by 2020. In 2007, their first wine was awarded BIO product certification.
Making wine
The Nebbiolo grape, from which this noble Barbaresco is made, is grown in the vineyards of the small Langhe parcel, which includes the municipalities of Barbaresco, Treiso, Neive and San Rocco Seno d’Elvio, north-east of Alba. In the Piedmont wine region, there is a 650 hectare DOCG zone where Nebbiolo grapes are harvested to produce Barbaresco wines. This wine is aged in oak barrels for 24 months.
Tasting notes
The nose is complex and varied, characterised by harmony and completeness. The fresh fruit aromas of the first months of production give way to a world of spices in the later stages. Hints of vanilla, cinnamon and green pepper have been added to the heather, rose, elderflower, apple and cherry. The colour is brick red with ruby tones and over the years the colour changes, becoming slightly orangey. The wine has a distinctly dry character on the palate, but also impresses with its delicate stiffness. An unbelievably aristocratic wine that occasionally enchants.
Food recommendation
Ideal with good beef, game and mature cheeses.
