Fondo Antico is a family‑run winery in the Trapani area, built on deep respect for Sicilian land and the century‑long winemaking heritage of the Polizzotti‑Scuderi family. Across 80 hectares of vineyards in Contrada Portelli, tradition blends with innovation, resulting in wines that capture the strength, generosity and distinctive character of Sicily.

Syrah is a grape variety that preserves its aromatic character remarkably well in warm climates. It produces structured wines with good colour and flavour, showing notes of pepper, red fruits and mint. The soil in which it grows contains a percentage of clay, which acts as a natural water reserve and allows the fruit to reach full maturity. For this reason, our Syrah is named Le Clay, after the clay‑rich soil of our vineyard.

Winemaking

Harvest period: late August to early September
Winemaking: skin maceration in stainless steel at controlled temperature for about 15 days
Aging: 25% in French oak barrels for 12 months; the remainder in stainless steel and in bottle

Tasting notes

Color: ruby with purple nuances
Nose: predominant spicy aromas — black pepper and mint; red berries and balsamic notes complete the bouquet
Palate: juicy, mellow and highly aromatic; savoury freshness supports the full body and extends the finish

Food pairings

It pairs beautifully with game and mushrooms. When added to a broth or soup, it enhances both fragrance and flavour. It is also well suited as a wine for appetizers. For this reason, our Syrah is named Le Clay, after the clay‑rich soil of our vineyard. Serving temperature: 16–18 °C.
