The Bestel family settled in Mauritius around 1870, bringing with them a heritage from Sedan in the French Ardennes-Champagne region where fine liqueur production was part of their DNA. Following his father’s footsteps, Frederic Bestel created his own Lychee Liqueur before founding Litchquor Ltd in 2012. Today, all rums are produced in Mauritius, crafted in small batches from sugar cane grown on fertile volcanic soils. Independent from distilleries, the company selects the best rums across the island to create premium spirits that reflect Mauritius in all its facets. With over 20 years of experience, Master Blender Frederic Bestel personally oversees each blend, ensuring distinctive quality and unique character.

About the Rum

A dark rum typical of the Southern Hemisphere, valued for its quality and elegance. Made from sugarcane molasses using traditional methods and masterfully blended from several outstanding Mauritian distillates, matured in South African oak barrels, and left unfiltered before bottling – resulting in a rich and well‑balanced spirit.

Tasting notes

Aroma: notes of oak, malt, and roasted nuts. Taste: light yet full-bodied, with nuances of tropical red fruits. Finish: well-balanced and satisfying. Character: a charming rum with harmonious aroma, taste, and a persistent finish.

Gold of Mauritius rum is best enjoyed neat to highlight its rich aroma and taste. It can also be served with ice, which softens the oak and chocolate notes and makes the drink more refreshing. The rum pairs beautifully with classic cocktails such as Old Fashioned, Manhattan, or Negroni. In food pairings, it is ideal with dark chocolate, nuts, tropical fruits, and aged cheeses, and also complements game or beef dishes with fruit- and spice-based sauces.

Best enjoyed at room temperature, around 18–20 °C, to highlight its complex aroma and taste. In a sealed bottle it keeps indefinitely, but once opened it should ideally be consumed within 1–2 years, stored in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight.
