The story of Guasti Clemente began in the post‑war years, when Clemente Guasti founded a winery in Nizza Monferrato, one of Piedmont’s most important wine‑growing areas. He was an innovator, among the first to indicate vineyard origin on labels, introducing the idea of “cru” for his finest estate vineyards and creating the renowned Barbera delle Cascine Nicesi. In the 1950s he adopted stainless‑steel autoclaves for Martinotti–Charmat sparkling wine production, a pioneering step for the region. Over the decades the winery expanded both nationally and internationally. Today, the third generation — Enrico Piantato — continues Clemente’s vision, strongly supporting the “Nizza” project, which became an official DOCG in 2014. The family’s wine heritage stretches even further back: in 1881 Secondo Guasti emigrated to California, where he founded a city and planted what became the world’s largest vineyard of its time.

About the wine

The grapes come from vineyards in the Barbaresco commune and several sites near Alba. The wine ages for 18 months in oak barrels.

Tasting notes

Warm baking spices intertwine with dried bay leaves, creating a savoury backdrop for candied cherries and red berries. The palate remains light, with bright acidity delivering a lively, slightly tart finish.
