Owner and winemaker of his family’s Châteauneuf du Pape estate since 2006, ‘Guillaume Gonnet, Vigneron’, was created by Guillaume and his Australian wife Kelly. Guillaume and Kelly have always been fascinated by the notion of “terroir”, most notably about how the Southern Rhône varieties express themselves in diverse terroir. Guillaume Gonnet wines are the realisation of their dream to explore the potential of Southern Rhône grape varieties in varing terroir in the South of France, and around the world.

Winemaking

The vines are situated on a plateau near the village, with a southern exposition. The soil is a mix of limestone, clay and sand. 45-year-old vines, density of 3000 vines/ha. Grapes are hand-picked. 25 days fermentation and maceration in concrete tank, natural yeast. Malolactic fermentation. Aging in concrete tanks.

Tasting notes

Cassis, grenadine, pure Provencal aromas of “garrigue” (local herbs) kirsch, fig, stewed blackberries, black olive tapenade and licorice.

Pairing recommendation

This wine marries well with a large range of foods, pulled pork, Provencal beef stew, beef ribs with pepper, or a more casual occasion with a gourmet pizza. This wine is delicious with cheese.Cellaring potential of 5 to 10 years.
