Murua is located on a small hill near the town of Elciego, historically dedicated to the production of top quality estate wines. The vineyards are divided into 8 plots planted mainly with red grape varieties (Tempranillo, Grenache, Graciano and Mazuelo). In order to achieve the best possible expression of the different soils on the estate, particular attention is paid to factors such as soil composition and structure, as well as vine orientation and solar radiation.

Making wine

Alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperature. Precise monitoring of soaking. Malolactic fermentation and decanting takes place in French and American oak barrels, where it is kept for 20 months. Our stocks are bottle-aged for a minimum of 4 years in underground bottle racks in the cellar to achieve optimum ripeness and roundness.

Tasting notes

Cherry red with garnet cap. Intense nose, mature but elegant and open. Fruity and sweet aromas are mixed with oak aromas. Strawberry, chocolate, caramel, plums… The entrance is sweet and delightful. The wine has good volume and structure. It’s fatty and of good intensity. Mouth passage is balanced, generous and long-lasting. Aromas of dried plum, thyme, cinnamon, rosemary and cocoa emerge to form a balanced and understated blend. Murua Reserva is a good wine that reflects the whole Rioja Alavesa tradition. It is characterised by great versatility and is an important reference among the greats of this land. In addition, it is the flagship of this wine producer.Recommended serving temperature: 15-17°C.
