Manzone Giovanni winery was founded in 1925 in Monforte d’Alba, at the heart of Piedmont. For five generations, the family has cultivated the same vineyards, preserving the traditional style of Barolo and Langhe wines. The estate grows Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, and the rare Rossese Bianco grape. Vineyards such as Castelletto, Gramolere, and Bricat lie within the UNESCO World Heritage Barolo hills, where sustainable and manual viticulture is practiced. The wines are recognized worldwide for their elegance, balance, and extraordinary longevity. “Five generations of winemakers, the same lands for over a century.”
About the wine
A complex and balanced red wine, made from Nebbiolo grapes handled and vinified by Manzone Giovanni, in Langhe land. The grapes come from a single vineyard, in the Castelletto mga, in Monforte d’Alba. The vineyard was replanted in 1999. The exposure is east-southeast; the soil is clay and calcareous. The steep slope of the hill only allows manual processing. The manual harvest is made in mid/late october to ensure the perfect ripening of the grapes.
Winemaking
The natural fermentation with the skins lasts 30 to 40 days with soft pumping over to guarantee a delicate polyphenolic extraction. After about 3 years of ageing in casks and a few months in concrete tanks, the wine is bottled during waning moon. The first Barolo was produced in 1961. . Few thousand bottles of Barolo Castelletto are produced and sold about 5 years after the harvest.
Tasting notes
Its nose is elegant and intense, with notes of raspberry, wild fruits, and tobacco. The colour is ruby red with medium-intensity garnet reflections. On the palate, it is warm, pleasant, with good tannic balance and sapidity.
Food pairing
It pairs perfectly with game, poultry, and aged cheeses.
STORAGE: Ensure the bottle is stored on its side, and protected from light and temperature variations. LIFESPAN: 15-20 years.
