This producer has been dedicated to cider and Calvados production for three generations. Marquis de Saint-Loup Calvados AOC is distilled in a column still giving the Calvados a very fruity and straightforward style. Their Calvados AOC Pays d’Auge, on the other hand, is distilled in a copper pot still which creates a mellow and full-bodied Calvados. Marquis de Saint-Loup cidre is an IGP Cidre de Normandie (indication géographique protégée). To receive the IGP designation, all apples used to make Marquis de Saint-Loup cidre must be an approved variety and must come from a specially certified geographic area.
About the Calvados
This Calvados, playfully labelled Age Inconnu (“unknown age”), is a blend of various distillates sourced from the Pays d’Auge in the eastern part of the Calvados region. In this area, only apples are permitted for use, and double distillation in pot stills is mandatory by regulation.
Tasting notes
It shows a deep, glistening amber-gold hue, with an enchanting nose of both fresh and baked apples, beautifully interwoven with vanilla, cinnamon, almond, and beeswax—all while preserving the core apple character. On the palate, it is caramelised, sweet, round, gentle, and enriched by refined spices. The finish is exceptionally long, consistently carrying the aged apple profile.
