In 1996, Nicholas Hammeken, who already had experience in marketing and selling wine in various European countries, opened his own business. At first, the company was just selling and reselling wines from other wineries, but then, in 2001, they had their first own line of wines. The company follows the latest global trends in order to produce wine of very good quality and at a relatively inexpensive price from local Spanish grape varieties.
“Pasas Monastrell will surprise you with its intense yet soft flavour. To produce this delicacy we carefully select the grapes which are harvested just as they start to become raisins while still on the vines. The result is a delicate wine with just the perfect touch of natural sugars, complimenting the power of the Monastrell grape.”
Winemaking
Continental climate with long hot summer. 30+ year old vines, attitude of 400-600 m a.s.l; yield of 30hl/ha. Harvest in the end of October. Cold maceration at 5°C for 48 hours, fermentation for 12-15 days at a temperature of 24-26°C. 15% of wine aged for 6 months in French and American oak.
Tasting notes
Deep dark ruby red colour. The aromas are intense fruity reminiscent of dark berries such as cherries, blueberries, blackberries with notes of wild herbs and toasted oak. On the palate the wine is rich and juicy with good concentration, sweetness and very soft tannins.
