Murua is located on a small hill near the town of Elciego, historically dedicated to the production of top quality estate wines. The vineyards are divided into 8 plots planted mainly with red grape varieties (Tempranillo, Grenache, Graciano and Mazuelo). In order to achieve the best possible expression of the different soils on the estate, particular attention is paid to factors such as soil composition and structure, as well as vine orientation and solar radiation.
Making wine
Murua Manor consists of more than 80 hectares of its own vineyard. This wine comes from a total of 3 hectares of low-yielding goblet vineyards aged between 40 and 80 years, from local varieties such as Viura, Malvasía and Garnacha Blanca, which are authentic jewels in the crown of the various vineyards and are cultivated as they are traditionally done in Elciego and the rest of the La Rioja Alavesa.Following a traditional process, the grapes are harvested by hand and selected in the winery using an artificial vision machine with a grain-perfect optical selection. The wine ferments in new French and American oak barrels for 15 days. After the fermentation was completed, the wine was aged in the same barrels and lees for 9 and a half months before being transferred to the Murua cellars.
Tasting notes
Clean, with lots of sparkle and golden reflections. Lemon yellow colour. The first aromas are a real explosion of flowers, intense and very persistent. Fresh citrus aromas come together with flowers from the Álava hills: rosemary, thyme, acacia, but also blended delicately with pastries and butter from the barrel. It is evolving and becoming more complex. The attack in the mouth is intense and fresh. The passage of the foot reflects personality, good balance, intensity and volume. We have a touch of green pear, a nice touch of grass, mint, chamomile and more aromas intertwined with elegant oak scents. Murua Blanco Fermented in Barrel is a wine in which we can highlight the acidity of excellent vintages, as distinguished in Burgundy white wines.
