Quinta da Devesa carries a remarkable and enduring history. In 1844, the renowned Baron Forrester marked this estate on the very first map of the demarcated Douro region. However, the most significant chapter of its history began in the last century, in 1941, when the Fortunato family acquired the property, initiating a new era of substantial investment in wine production, with a particular focus on Port wines. Later, references to DOC Douro wines also emerged, further strengthening the estate’s presence in both the national and international wine markets.
Today, Quinta da Devesa remains an independent family‑owned estate, forward‑looking and represented across several international markets. Investments made in recent years have led to increased recognition among wine enthusiasts and specialized critics. All of this is reflected in the numerous national and international awards the estate has earned to date.
Winemaking
Careful selection of the best grapes, hand‑harvested. Destemming, crushing and pressing of all grapes harvested on the day. Cold settling at 10 °C for 48 hours to clarify the must and enhance the aromatic expression of the varieties.
Fermentation at controlled temperature in stainless steel at 15–16 °C for 6 to 10 days. Fermentation ends at 20 °C. Daily bâtonnage. 60% of the wine ages for 14 months in new French oak barrels, the remaining 40% in stainless steel. Minimum bottle ageing: 1 year.
The vineyards of Quinta da Devesa are managed using sustainable agricultural practices, in accordance with the Integrated Production guidelines, certified by an independent organization recognized by the Portuguese State.
Tasting notes
Clear, citrus colour. Complex and appealing aromas where vanilla and light toast blend perfectly with tropical fruit and intense floral notes.
On the palate, the wine is creamy, smooth and remarkably fresh. Serving temperature: 10 °C.
Store the bottle horizontally, protected from light, at a constant and moderate temperature.
Winemaker: Luís Rodrigues
