In the heart of the Roero region, in Vezza d’Alba, the Demarie Giovanni family have been managing their estate for more than three generations with hard work and a real passion for viticulture. The winery has over 20 hectares of vineyards in the districts of Vezza, Castagnito, Castellinaldo and Guarene. The company’s choice to produce wine exclusively from grapes grown on its own vineyards guarantees the authenticity of the product. Demarie is also focused on the sustainability of its wines: by 2020. In 2007, their first wine was awarded BIO product certification.
Making wine
The wort is fermented in temperature-controlled vats. Malolactic fermentation and maturation in large neutral Slavonian oak barrels for an average of 6 months. Matured for at least one year before bottling. A vegan wine, clarified with a clay base and lightly filtered. Sulphur is added only when essential to maintain the integrity of the wine throughout the process.
Tasting notes
This wine is a more elegant version of Barbera, with an emphasis on floral and herbal elements. Full-bodied and enveloping, its acidic taste does not upset the balance. Dry, fresh and aromatic, the taste of this wine lingers on the tongue. Violet flowers and purple fruits, such as plums and mulberries, are harmoniously paired with warm culinary spices and notes of forest floor. The wine is medium-bodied, juicy, with soft tannins and a refreshing, tangy finish.
Food recommendation
This versatile wine, perfect for eating, will match almost any dinner table, pairing with everything from red meat, pork and chicken to salmon, pasta, pizza and Mediterranean dishes containing herbs such as rosemary, thyme, sage or oregano.Best served at 13-16°C and allowed to breathe for about 30 minutes before serving.
