Murua sits on a small hill just outside the town of Elciego, an area historically dedicated to crafting top quality estate wines. The vineyards are divided into 8 plots, mainly planted with red grape varietals (Tempranillo, Grenache, Graciano and Mazuelo). In order to achieve the best possible expression of the different soils in the estate, special attention is paid to factors such as soil composition and structure, and the orientation and sun exposure of the grape clusters.
Winemaking
The vineyards from which VS Murua comes are between 20 and 55 years old. The soils are mainly clay, highlighting some calcareous clay. For this wine, those plots with a good percentage of clay are chosen to guarantee freshness and fruit that will later be appreciated in this wine. Spontaneous fermentation, at temperatures between 24 and 27 degrees. Mild pumpovers, “delestage” and little oxygenation in the alcoholic fermentation. Maceration between 10 and 15 days. Aged for 16 months in French (30%) and American (70%) oak barrels.
Tasting notes
Cherry red color, intense and bright with a pinkish reflection. The first impression is intense, frank and very perfumed. On the nose, it has aromas of black fruits, jams and balsamic touches. It is an elegant wine, very pleasant and with good evolution. The attack in the mouth is explosive, powerful and balanced. The entrance is very fine but powerful. It has a good volume and has a magnificent persistence. VS Murua is characterized by being a wine with a lot of personality and good aging potential. It is an elegant and seductive wine, a true reflection of the place it comes from (“Sierra Alavesa”).Recommended serving temperature: 14-16°C
