Murua is located on a small hill near the town of Elciego, historically dedicated to the production of top quality estate wines. The vineyards are divided into 8 plots planted mainly with red grape varieties (Tempranillo, Grenache, Graciano and Mazuelo). In order to achieve the best possible expression of the different soils on the estate, particular attention is paid to factors such as soil composition and structure, as well as vine orientation and solar radiation.

Winemaking

The Murua winery owns over 80 hectares of vineyards. This wine comes from 3 hectares of old, low-yielding vines aged between 40 and 80 years. The varieties Viura, Malvasía, and Garnacha Blanca are traditional to Rioja Alavesa.
The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted at the winery. Fermentation takes place for 15 days in new French and American oak barrels. The wine then ages on the lees in the same barrels for about 9 months before being bottled and further matured in Murua’s cellars.

Colour: bright lemon-yellow with golden reflections.
Aroma: fresh and elegant, showing citrus, wild flowers, rosemary, thyme, and light buttery oak.
Palate: fresh, balanced and full-bodied, with notes of pear, mint, chamomile and subtle oak.
Murua Blanco Fermentado en Barrica is an elegant white wine with lively acidity and harmony, recalling the finest white wines of Burgundy.
