Bodegas Barreda is a modern company whose goal is to produce high-quality wines, completing a process that begins in the soil and ends with a bottle ready for sale. At Torre de Barreda, wine is understood as a universal product that embodies the cultural identity of the region and as a spiritual complement to food in the art of gastronomy. The world of wine is a fascinating one, but it requires a lot of patience and care: time is a decisive factor, and today’s hard work and planning will only bear fruit many years from now. At Bodegas Barreda, they strive daily to improve their processes and wines, always keeping in mind their ultimate goal: to express the character of their terroir.
About the grape variety
In 2015, the winery planted 4.5 hectares of Graciano in their Monte Alto estate. Their goal with this variety is to produce a wine with lower alcohol content and higher acidity in the Toledo region, while still delivering a distinctive personality and palate.
The Graciano grape originates from northern Spain, where it is often blended with Tempranillo due to its excellent acidity. When grown in warmer regions like Toledo, it can achieve good ripeness while maintaining freshness. It is a low-yielding variety with late budding and ripening. With straight leaves, its compact clusters are medium to large in size, pyramid-shaped with short shoulders. The berries are medium to small, intensely dark in colour, and have thick skins.
About the wine
It offers a moderate intensity on the nose, clean and floral at first – jasmine, mimosa, rosemary, and vibrant fresh red fruit. On the palate, it begins with a fresh entry, highlighting varietal character and fruit weight, with good acidity and slightly drying tannins. The oak ageing appears balanced and pleasant, leading to a medium-length finish.
