Quinta da Devesa carries a secular history. In 1844, the well-known Baron Forrester, included this property in what was the first map of the Douro Demarcated Region. But the most important history of this property began last century, in 1941, when the Fortunato family acquired the Quinta, thus beginning a new phase of greater investment in wine production, with a special focus on Port Wines. Later there are also references to DOC Douro wines, which has strengthened its presence in the national and international wine market. Quinta da Devesa remains today an independent family company, oriented to the future, with presence in several international markets. The investment made in recent years has brought greater recognition by wine lovers and specialized critics. The result of all this is also visible through the huge palate of national and international awards achieved to date.

Winemaking

Since 1941, when it was acquired by the Fortunato family, the story of José Fortunato Júnior and his wife, Antónia Soares Fortunato, has been one of a life dedicated to Port Wine. Since then it has been an independent family business dedicated to the production of Douro and Port wine.To celebrate 80 years of existence, Quinta da Devesa decided to bottle, for the first time, this extraordinary and rare wine, stored and aged for decades in our cellars in the Douro. This limited edition originates from a very small number of barrels, which were reserved exclusively for the family, unique treasures of the heritage of Antonia and José Fortunato Junior, who originally acquired Quinta de Devesa in 1941. Quinta da Devesa remains today an independent family producer of Port Wine and is honored to share this special and unique wine with Port enthusiasts around the world.

Tasting notes

This Very Very Old Tawny presents a golden blondish colour with greenish shades revealing its age. On the nose it shows a remarkable bouquet of sumptuous aromas with notes of whisky, caramel, orange peel and tobacco. It envelops the palate with a dense mouth volume, excellent acidity and citrus notes, good wood and spices. Very long finish with exceptional complexity and depth and a remarkable balance between sweetness and freshness. Such a complex wine that reveals itself layer after layer indefinitely. Should be served at a temperature of 12 to 14ºC.
