The property, acquired by Emile Castéja in 1973 at the same time as Château Pignon (Lalande-de-Pomerol), is today managed by his son, Philippe Castéja. Situated in the shadow of the bell tower of the commune of Pomerol, the vineyard of Château du Domaine de l’Église covers 7 hectares. Planted with 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc on gravel and clay soil, it produces high quality grapes.
Winemaking
Gravel soil, clay and iron dross. Fermentation and maceration for almost 4 weeks. Aged in barrels (about 60% new) for 18 months.
Tasting notes
Robe tending towards violet. Fresh, fruity and floral nose. On the palate, this wine is elegant, round, with a nice full body, velvety tannins and a touch of vegetal. One of the best vintages of the Château du Domaine de l’Église!
Pairing recommendation
Perfect with pan-seared foie gras, duck with oranges, turkey with chestnuts, hare a la Lucullus and tournedos Rossini with ceps.
