The story of Guasti Clemente began in the post‑war years, when Clemente Guasti founded a winery in Nizza Monferrato, one of Piedmont’s most important wine‑growing areas. He was an innovator, among the first to indicate vineyard origin on labels, introducing the idea of “cru” for his finest estate vineyards and creating the renowned Barbera delle Cascine Nicesi. In the 1950s, he introduced stainless‑steel autoclaves for producing sparkling wine using the Martinotti–Charmat method. Over the years, the winery expanded its presence both in Italy and on international markets. Today, the third generation — Enrico Piantato — leads the estate with the same passion, actively developing the “Nizza” project, which received official DOCG status in 2014. The family’s wine heritage stretches even further back: in 1881, Secondo Guasti migrated to California, where he founded a town and planted the largest vineyard of his time.
