The agricultural company was founded in 1993, by Ivan Giuliani, who inherited the farm previously purchased in the 1930s from his grandfather. The spark for this profession was ignited after 1995. At the end of his military service in Friuli, in the midst of vineyards and winemakers who passed on to him their attachment to their land and the best winemaking techniques, Ivan decided that this would be the metier of his life. It is located in Fosdinovo, in the province of Massa, in the northernmost tongue of Tuscany. The company covers about 20 hectares located between Luni, Candia, Cinque Terre and Lunigiana. The harvest is carried out manually and late, so that the grapes achieve a perfect balance between sugars, acidity, polyphenols and aromas. It is wonderful to know that the vines, as many as 8500 per hectare, are planted in this way to make them compete with each other so that the search for food takes place ever deeper. The plant will be stronger and less in need of care.

Winemaking

The vineyards are mainly located in the municipality of Fosdinovo at an altitude of around 50-100 metres above sea level on predominantly sandy-loamy soils rich in pebbles. Harvesting, carried out manually and with a yield of 90 quintals/hectare, begins in September, depending on the ripeness of the various plots and clones. Grapes are received in the cellar by gravity, using inertisation systems to reduce stress on the grapes until they reach the press. Long-cycle pressing, cold static decantation and subsequent temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel vats result in a wine that, after maturing on its lees for 4 months, makes its aromatic fragrance and excellent drinkability its strong point. Bottling takes place in February with minimal doses of sulphur dioxide. It is released after a few weeks in the bottle. Some 70,000 bottles are produced each year.

Tasting notes

This wine is a food lover’s dream- bright with acidity and full of minerality. With white flowers, mango and underripe pineapple flavors situated in a slightly viscous, oily mouthfeel, it feels great in the mouth. The texture is quickly cleaned away by the acid, finishing on a chalky, stone driven note.

Food pairing

It would fabulous as a summer apéro or even better with a dish of spaghetti alle vongole.
