In the heart of the Roero region, in Vezza d’Alba, the Demarie Giovanni family have been managing their estate for more than three generations with hard work and a real passion for viticulture. The winery has over 20 hectares of vineyards in the districts of Vezza, Castagnito, Castellinaldo and Guarene. The company’s choice to produce wine exclusively from grapes grown on its own vineyards guarantees the authenticity of the product. Demarie is also focused on the sustainability of its wines: by 2020. In 2007, their first wine was awarded BIO product certification.
About wine
The label says it all about this wine. A colorful fish swims against the stream and listens to its music. The style of Pet Nat can be very different, just like any wine category. Some of these types of wines are unusual, some are decanted to remove sediment, while others are simply expressed differently depending on the region or grape. Fermentation with wild yeast from Roero’s organic vineyards gives this wine a fresh new taste! In the case of Luig, the sediment remains in the bottle, making it cloudy, naturally protecting and giving it a richer taste. To fully taste it, we recommend gently swirling it so that the sediment becomes a suspension and the wine becomes cloudy, or chill the wine upright and pour carefully so that the sediment does not enter the glass.
Winemaking
Spontaneous fermentation of natural yeast in a steel tank with the completion of bottle fermentation, leaving natural carbonation and sediment. After fermentation in the bottle, the wine rests for several months before release. Unfined and unfiltered wine. The vines were planted between 1980 and 1990 on the Torion MGA (vineyard) grounds, less than a mile from the winery, using the Guyot method of pruning the vines.
Tasting notes
Orange blossom, tangerine peel, fresh bread and red fruits. Lively and fresh with fine and delicate bubbles. Floral, pleasant citrus and bread crust notes.
Food pairing
Fun and versatile food wine. The bubbles make it ideal for fatty foods and salty foods like potato chips. It is suitable for many dishes: light dishes, Asian cuisine, burgers and fish and chips.
