Muscat d’Alsace ,Muscat Ottonel |
The Fonné family, independent winegrowers since 1747, invite you to discover their estate in the heart of the Kaysersberg valley, just minutes from Colmar. Michel Fonné and his three daughters — Déborah, Sarah and Salomé — manage 17 hectares of vines across a wide range of Alsace terroirs, combining tradition with modern expertise. Thanks to Michel’s international experience and the family’s ambition, Domaine Michel Fonné wines are now enjoyed in more than thirty countries worldwide.
Winemaking
Muscat vines (Muscat d’Alsace and Muscat d’Ottonel) are on average 45 years old and grow mainly on clay‑limestone soils. Vineyard work takes place throughout the year: pruning (double Guyot), lowering the canes, arching, green work (de‑budding) and manual tying‑up. At the same time, we cultivate the soil and mow the grass regularly while avoiding soil compaction. Committed to environmental protection, respect for the people who work the land, and the quality of the wines.
Harvest usually takes place in October. The grapes are placed in a pneumatic press, where the juice remains in contact with the skins for several hours to allow maceration — a key step for aromatic varieties. The juice is then gently extracted and transferred to stainless‑steel tanks. Fermentation, the most important stage, begins: natural yeasts present in the grapes transform sugars into alcohol over several months. The wine is then aged on fine lees until bottling.
Tasting notes
The wine shows a brilliant yellow‑green colour. On the nose, Muscat reveals intense fruit complemented by floral notes. On the palate, it expresses the full range of grape aromas: the crunchy character of Muscat d’Ottonel combined with the lively acidity of Muscat d’Alsace.
Food pairing
This dry and fresh wine is ideal as an aperitif, leaving the palate clean thanks to its delicacy and natural liveliness. It pairs beautifully with vegetable‑based dishes or spring asparagus and can also be enjoyed entirely on its own.
