About wine

A combination winery and brewery was founded in 1842 in the heart of Burgundy. On 17 hectares in a prime location in Mercurey lies the traditional business Maison L. Tramier & Fils, which unites two Burgundian families under the same banner. The Tramier & Dufouleur families have been working together for several decades. This is how the three strong pillars L. Tramier & Fils, Domain Laurent Dufouleur and Brombeere emerged. The leaders of the Tramier Collection are Laurent Dufouleur, his wife Bérengère and a loyal team of specialists in the art of brewing and winemaking, who brought decades of family tradition into the modern era.

Every success story has its main characters. The history of Maison L. Tramier & Fils began with the visionary Louis Tramier. At that time, the farmer’s son’s ambitions were not in local agriculture. As a connoisseur and wine lover, working as a winemaker seemed more obvious to the young Louis Tramier. In 1842, the budding winemaker acquired the beautiful vaulted cellars in Mercurey, which formed the basis for the Maison L. Tramier & Fils. Since then, several generations of enthusiastic descendants have continued Louis Tramier’s work.

Over time, renowned Burgundy appellations were produced, new vines were incorporated, wines were exported throughout Europe and the business expanded across the Atlantic. Today, Maison L. Tramier & Fils offers a remarkable variety of quality wines from throughout Burgundy. Wines whose strong personality ensured that the winery was certified with Haute Valeur Environnementale Level 3 in 2020.

The Maison Tramier is considered a meeting point for everyone interested in the history of Burgundy wines. With the label “Vignobles et Découvertes” the wine house is part of the best offer of French wine tourism. The excellent Burgundy wines result from the composition of the Argilo-Calcaire soils, which produce excellent vines in the best locations of Mercurey, Nuits Saint Georges and Bouzeron. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Gamay and Aligoté are preferred and mature into the best wines in the vaults of Maison L. Tramier & Fils.

Winemaking

Grapes are harvested in fully ripe. After destemming, berries are crushed, then put into stainless steel temperature-controlled vats for maceration. This stage is followed by alcoholic fermentation. After a few days, juice is separated from the solid waste. Then, it’s time for maturing, when wine stabilizes and rests.
Ageing in wood during several months gives wine woody notes and beautiful complex aromas.

Tasting notes

This deep red wine provides intense red and black fruit aromas like raspberry and blackberry. On the palate, suppleness is the dominant impression, with fine tannins and a long finish on the fruit.

Food pairing

Goes well with meats, couscous, grilled mustard chicken cutlet, goat’s and ewe’s cheeses. Served at room temperature, at 16°/18 to be drunk right away, or can be stored a few years in good storage conditions.
