The idea for Two Hands was born in September 1999 when founders Michael Twelftree and Richard Mintz sat at a friend’s engagement party and decided it was time to make their own wine and market it on the world stage. The original aim was, and still is, to make the best possible Shiraz-based wines from prized growing regions throughout Australia. With so much Australian wine being sold around the globe under multi-region labels in a formulaic style, the intention was to break the mould and showcase the diversity of Australian Shiraz by highlighting regional and vineyard characteristics by allowing the fruit to be the primary feature of the wines.

About the wine

“Angels’ Share” was one of the winery’s very first wines. “Angel’s share” refers to a small amount of wine evaporating from porous oak barrels during the process of ageing. It releases into the air, where, according to legend, the angels drink their share of the drink for watching over the wine.

Winemaking

Aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.

Tasting notes

Intense dark purple red colour. Aromas of fresh blueberries, cherries, raspberries, plums, lavender, wood and sweet spices such as vanilla. Notes of pepper, liquorice and chocolate. This Australian wine is a delicate wine with round tannins and medium body. It leaves a silky mouthfeel. Complex and intense, with ripe black fruits. Good structure and acidity.

Food pairing

It goes perfectly with veal, lamb, game (venison, deer) and poultry.
