“Lions de Batailley” is the second wine of Château Batailley, named after the two lions that guard the main entrance gate of the estate. Château Batailley, classified as a 5th Grand Cru Classé in 1855, is the flagship of the Castéja family and of Borie‑Manoux. It is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc. Lions de Batailley comes mainly from younger vines (10–40 years old), as well as from vineyard parcels not included in the final blend of the Grand Vin.
Winemaking
Fermentation and maceration for about 25 days. Aged for 4 months in French oak barrels.
Tasting notes
“The second wine of Château Batailley is well crafted, with notes of blackcurrant and blackberry, as well as black olives. It is full‑bodied and tannic, with a savoury finish.” — James Suckling.
Pairs beautifully with Pauillac lamb, lamprey, and cheeses.
